Sisters: For many of us "sisters" is a powerful word that evokes a range of deep emotions. The word speaks of bonds like no other and jogs memories of intimate conversations, brutal fights, belly laughs, celebrations, secrets, long walks, solace, betrayal, camaraderie, home.
For the last few years, Laura McHale Holland, has produced events at SISTERS Consignment Couture in Sonoma, Calif., where local authors present readings on the theme of sisterhood. With the blessing of shop owner, Chris Johnson, talented writers (some of whom are pictured in the photo above) have shared memoir, essay, fiction and poetry by and about sisters, either born or found. The readings have been multifaceted, ranging from intense and painful to lighthearted and celebratory. All of the work has been heartfelt and memorable.
This anthology began as an effort to capture some of the magic of those readings and soon grew into something much bigger. This exciting new book contains writings on sisterhood from every continent except Antarctica and features renowned storytellers Laura Simms, Ruth Stotter, John Boe, and Erica Lann-Clark. Also included are memoirists, poets and fiction writers both prominent and newly published. All share unique perspectives on the sister bond.
My Fantasy short story, "Soaring into Space", about a big sister with a unique distaste for the prefix 'half-', a strong girl who only wants to care for her little brothers, is a part of this amazing anthology, filled with gripping and poignant tales of love.
